Overview

I have never taken an epics class so this is all pretty new to me. I am excited to get started though just because I love learning new things. As I was looking, the thing that caught my attention the most was the variety of the reading. There are so many different options and I even saw that there are comic books options. I am not a big fan of comic books but I know many people who are so I think that it is just cool that it is one of the options. I love the variety.

I have taken a religion class before but it was an introduction to religion class so I don't feel like I got that much out of it. It was a very basic explanation of the different parts of the religions. I have never meditated before but I hear that it is very calming and helps people to feel good.

Overall, I am very excited to work on this class. I took the mythology class last semester and I loved how different all the readings were. I felt like I was learning so much about so many different things. I look forward to learning more about the epics of India and the format of the class definitely helps me to want to learn.

  1. I noticed you put the Tulsidas comic book here in the Overview, Stevi: yes!!!!! And next week (Week 4), there are indeed comic books to read, and graphic novels also, which are in Bizzell, plus an animated film online, and online books too. I had such a great time this summer figuring out what all the options could be! The Tulsidas comic book is actually a pretty chunky book because it is several different comic books combined (so it would take a couple of weeks to read), but the standard comic books are pretty short, and so you can even choose to read two of them in Week 4 if you want! They are all on Reserve in Bizzell, and you can browse them here:
Ramayana comic books ... there are some really good ones there; I especially like Mahiravana because it is a famous folktale about Ravana's son, but it's not included in any of the traditional Ramayanas!
    Mahiravana: A Magician Outwitted
I hope you will have fun with the new kinds of readings next week!
