Introduction

My name is Stephanie Holliman. Everyone calls me Stevi. I sometimes even forget that my real name is Stephanie. I am 25 years old and my major is psychology. I was born and raised in Oklahoma and I could not imagine living anywhere else. I am married with two children. My son’s name is Bentley and he is 5 years old. My daughter’s name is Bransyn and she is 1 year old. Mostly everything in my life revolves around my kids.

I am going to be graduating this semester with my bachelors in psychology. I already have an Associates in Applied Sciences in EMS that I got a couple years ago. I am a nationally registered and state certified paramedic but I am no longer working as a paramedic because I decided that I wanted to do something different with my life. That is why I am working towards my psychology degree. I started college when I was 17 years old. I feel like I have been in school for forever but I know that it will be worth it in the end.

My life is pretty busy now. I used to play soccer. I still love playing but I am not able to do it as much. Between kids, school, and work there just isn’t much time for anything else. I am okay with that though because things are going pretty good. I am quite content with spending most of my time with my family.

The free time that I get is spent with my children, my nieces and nephews. There is a total of 9 children between my sisters and I. There are numerous days where I watch all of them by myself. We have fun though. We love to play outside and go to the park. I spend a lot of time coloring and playing with play-doh. I love it. It reminds me to enjoy the little things in life.

  1. Welcome back, Stevi!!! And what a beautiful picture of your children. How great that they are growing up getting to know all their cousins like that too... and so many cousins, wow! Nine children sounds like a very exciting psychology lab all its own; I am guessing you are learning more from all of them than from any class you might be taking. As you will see in the epics, though, the world of imagination can go even farther, like Gandhari with her one hundred children. Busy lady! You'll be learning about her in a few weeks when you read the Mahabharata, but here is a sneak peek:
    Gandhari, mother of the Kauravas
And of course I am so curious to see what stories will grab your attention this semester. :-)

  2. Your children are so adorable! I also grew up playing with all of my cousins and it really shaped me into who I am today. I bet they just love having their family to play with all the time. How did you like being a paramedic? After I graduate, I am sending my husband to college, and he decided he wanted to take that line of study. It went hand-in-hand with his training in the military, but I just wanted to know if you had any opinions or advice. I am really impressed that you are going to school while having two children. I know it is a lot of work, but it will definitely pay off in the end.

  3. I think it is so cool that you are getting your degree in psychology! I've always found that to be such an interesting subject and it's inspiring that you came back to study something that interests you, even after receiving your Associate's degree in something else. I also think it's fun that you take care of so many children at once. I have three nieces and two nephews that I take care of sometimes, but the most I can take care of alone is 3. It seems like it would be over-whelming, but probably a lot of fun too!

    1. Early Congratulations on getting your bachelors. Your kids remind me of my niece and nephew. Being only 20, I couldn't imagine raising kids and going to school at the same time it must have been super hard. I started school the same time you did and expect to be in there for long time to. I used to play soccer as kid too but I switched to playing basketball instead. .

  4. Hi Stevi. First of all, your children look lovely! I once thought about going into EMS work but was talked out of it by my aunt who did it for some time. I too am finally graduating this semester! I know how it is returning to school and it's definitely not easy, I started back when I was 27, finally finishing up at 29. I can't even imagine how it is while raising kids, so good on you! The time has flown though by and I am so excited to finally get that degree.

  5. Hi Stephanie, your kids look cute. It is hard to believe that you almost have two degrees at 25 years old and at the same time raising a family. It is good to see that you are following you are following your dreams. I like that you spend time with your kids and “enjoy the little things in life.” The time you spend with them, they will surely cherish later in life.

  6. Hello Stevi! Your children are beautiful! :-) I am glad that you are now pursuing a career that you want to work in and I think that is great! My older step brother is an EMT and, at least for him, I know it is long and stressful hours on the job. I hope this semester treats you well! Good luck with graduation!

  7. Hi Stevi, you watched all nine kids by yourself? I do not know how you do it! Children are so much fun, but I do not think I can ever handle nine kids at once. The most I have to handle was six kids, when I was teaching them dance and I thought that was a lot. Your kids are beautiful.

  8. What a precious photo of your children! It sounds like a full house with nine kids running around! I'm happy that you took the initiative to change the course of your life to pursue a major that you're interested in. A lot of people think it's too late to return to school and begin a new career, but you actually did it. I admire that! Congratulations on your up-coming graduation and good luck!

  10. Your name is cool and your kids are adorable! I could not begin to imagine raising two kids while finishing a degree. My puppy is enough responsibility for me right now. Keep up with the great work and congratulations on going back to school to get a new degree! That shows you have some amazing dedication and hard work.

  11. Oh my goodness Stevi your children are the cutest. I love your nickname especially, having a monosyllabic name like Claire doesn't lead to much in the nickname department! Awesome that you worked as a paramedic as well, one of my good friends who's in Engineers' Club with me also works as a paramedic in addition to going to school. Congratulations on graduating this semester! I bet it feels great to know you're almost done! Finish strong and enjoy being out of school for the rest of us! :)

  12. Hi, Stevi! I am so inspired by your dedication to your education and to your family! I also grew up very close to my cousins (and in small town Oklahoma!) and I can't imagine a happier way to grow up. Your kids are precious! Congratulations on being so very close to your bachelors! I hope you'll keep us updated on all the great things you do!

  13. Hi Stevi! First of all, I would like to point out how amazing it is that you are able to be going to school, working, and raising two children at such a young age! You truly are an inspiration. I also think it is pretty cool that you have already achieved an Associate’s degree and previously worked as a paramedic! Your kids are super adorable! I hope you finish off your last semester well and good luck in all your future endeavors! Congrats on being able to graduate this semester!

  14. Hello Stevi!
I sometimes forget my full name too, since I go by Pita usually. Its weird, huh? Ha!
Your children are beautiful and I think it's amazing that you are a mother and also pursuing your college education. That's fantastic! I also feel like I'll be in school forever at this point. But, hey, it will be worth it. Like my momma says, if it was easy everyone would do it! Good luck with the rest of your semester and graduation! :)

  15. Hello Stevi!
I have to admit you have a long name! I think your name is the longest one that I know.
Your major is very challengeable; at least psychology is really hard for me. I enrolled in on principle psychology course during my freshman year. Those complicated words in psychology really killed me. I studied very hard and ended with a B.
